Three Guilty Pleasures

22 Dec 2015 by Paul

Less of the guilty and more of the pleasure... now is the perfect time to indulge! Follow our three step plan to add an extra touch of luxury to your celebrations this year.

1. Start the day with bubbles

What could be better for this than one of the most beautiful fine Italian sparkling wines we've found presented in an unmistakeable square bottle in a luxurious black gift box. Like Champagne, Franciacorta Ferghettina Milledi is made from 100% Chardonnay grapes and aged for 36 months on its lees, resulting in a remarkably fine wine with refined, complex flavours. Once tasted you will see why many people choose this over Champagne – modern, dramatic, sensational! Save £10 a bottle - down from £36 to £26 while stocks last.

2. Something sumptuous to accompany dessert

For a really special way to wrap up dinner open a bottle of gently chilled dessert wine. Whether you enjoy this with or in place of dessert, it brings with it a real sense of occasion. Widely appealing, and a special treat for Sauvignon Blanc lovers, we can recommend a fabulous bin-end 2011 late harvest Marlborough Sauvignon from Brancott Estate, winner of both the Regional Trophy and Best in Show at the Decanter. (Only £9.99 at A&H)

3. A warm and wonderful drop to cap it all off

While hopefully not representing the straw that broke the camel's back, a glass of port may bring a tremendous glow to the proceedings. After a day of delightful indulgences, messing about with decanting a port may seem like one job too many so we recommend something you simply open, pour and enjoy. The Krohn Late Bottled Vintage 2007 port could not be more seasonal. This is bright, ruby rich, full of dark fruit and a touch of sweet winter spices. Or you could spoil everyone with a delicious drop of brandy in the form of the Darroze 12 year old Armagnac. (If it's good enough for every Michelin starred restaurant in France, it's the perfect treat!)

Whatever you get up to, we wish you a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
