This April sees the return of our delicious annual cheese and wine extravaganza, a collaboration between two longstanding independent businesses in Harrogate: Ake & Humphris Wine Merchants and The Cheeseboard.
The Cheeseboard, first established in Harrogate in 1981, in the capable hands of Gemma Aykroyd for the last 25 years, has been serving fabulous cheeses to all and has recently moved down Commercial Street to new improved premises. As you probably know, Ake & Humphris has been pouring you wine in Harrogate for over 15 years, and has just opened a new wine bar and shop on Oxford Street.
While March was all about the Oscars, this is our opportunity to invite you in to the plush surroundings of Hotel du Vin in Harrogate to participate in a classy event that promises to be both entertaining and a real treat for your palate.
So what can you expect?
A cast of six award-winning cheeses will take centre stage, each one decorated with awards, ready for their close-up, while the supporting cast of A-list wines bring serious charisma.
Guiding the evening are your hosts, Paul Auty (wine enthusiast from Ake & Humphris) and Gemma Aykroyd (cheese aficionado from The Cheeseboard), both introducing each pairing with plenty of flair.
Expect dazzling pairings where creamy, nutty, and beautifully complex cheeses meet bottles bursting with personality.
As the evening unfolds you’ll discover scene-stealing combinations — moments where bright fruit, savoury depth, and silky texture collide in ways that deserve a standing ovation.
This relaxed sit down tasting will be indulgent without being over the top, celebratory without losing its finesse, and every bit as thrilling as the final envelope reveal.
Expect a glass of stylish bubbles on arrival and a glitzy, yet convivial atmosphere too!
